ISTRA - THE CITY OF INSPIRATION
PROJECT IDEA
Architectural and planning concept for the improvement of a public area at the address: Moscow region, Istra city district, Istra city

Special award at the VIII All-Russian competition for the best projects for creating a comfortable urban environment in small towns and historical settlements in 2023 Section: "Historical settlements"
Istra has become a source of inspiration for many poets and writers of Russia. Here they found like-minded people, felt in love and created.

Patriarch Nikon should be considered the first writer of Istra. After all, his appeals to believers in form were complete literary works. By the end of the 17th century, the library of the New Jerusalem Monastery became the first in Russia in terms of the content of books published by the printing houses of Vilnius, Kyiv, Krakow, Lvov, Kuteinsky and Iversky monasteries. The monastery encouraged literary communication of cultures.

A visit to the New Jerusalem Monastery was reflected in the work of Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov. The young, excited poet expressed a strong impression of the holy places of Istra in the poem “The Branch of Palestine”.

A long period of life of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov is connected with the Istra region. In Voskresensk (the former name of Istra), the future doctor had an internship, and then worked freelance at the Chikinskaya (today Istra) hospital. The world-famous works of Chekhov "The Cherry Orchard" and "Three Sisters" were written on Istra land. The Seagull was also conceived here.

The historical heritage and picturesque nature of the Istra region inspired Fyodor Ivanovich Tolstoy and Alexander Blok, Andrei Bely and Ilja Ehrenburg. Their work reflects feelings and images inspired by the atmosphere of these places. The project proposes to reveal and emphasize the significance of Istra to the history of the development of the country's literature. Such a concept would be a logical continuation of the interests and initiatives that already exist in the city. The importance of the literary memory of the Istra region for future generations cannot be overestimated. After all, Istra is a city of inspiration!
